Michelangelo Rossi: Toccato Settima
- album and band name
- about
- As with Frescobaldi, is most likely that Carissimi knew and worked with the composer, violinist, and organist Michelangelo Rossi. Born into a musical family in Genoa, Rossi moved to Rome by 1624 and entered the service of Cardinal Maurizio of Savoy. During this time Rossi also studied with Frescobaldi. His opera Erminia was performed in the theater of the Palazzo Barberini in 1633 and published four years later; a second opera, Andromeda was produced in Ferrara. Rossi was most famous in his time as a virtuoso violinist, though no examples of his music for that instrument survive. In it's highly chromatic language and mannerist style is keyboard music is similar to that of his teacher Frescobaldi.
